National Park & Monuments Destination Information

Agra
  • Agra is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It finds mention in the epic Maharashtra when it was called Agrabana, or Paradise. Tradition and legend ascribe the present city of Raja Badal Singh ( around 1475) whose fort, Badalgrah, stood on or near the site of the present Fort.
  • However, the 12th century Persian poet Salman writes of a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra, then held by one King Jaipal, by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni.
  • It achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal emperors from 1526 to 1658 and remains a major tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Taj Mahal, Agra fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Corbett
  • Corbett Park is one of India’s most Beautiful wildlife areas has a tiger population of around 160.Which makes this park as the last and the most important bastion on this endangered species in India.
  • The rich biodiversity of the park is a perfect place for bird enthusiasts; the area is considered one of the best bird-watching areas in India, with some 600 species having been sighted in the park. 
  • The different Habitat types of Corbett Park i.e mountains, Sal forests, chaurs (grasslands), khair-sissoo forests, and rivers have their distinct assemblage of plants.

Nahan
  • A well-laid out picturesque town, Nahan is situated on a hill top in the Shiwalik Hills, overlooking green hills. Traditionally, saints and princes are linked with the origin of Nahan.
  • At an altitude of 932 m, Nahan is a good base for visits to the surrounding areas such as Renuka Lake, Paonta Sahib, Trilokpur temple and the Suketi Fossil Park.
  • It has a pleasant climate throughout the year and is watered by a man-made lake and decorated with temples and gardens. Nahan has got the crown to organize the second Municipal Corporation in India, after Kolkata.
